About Akasa Air

Akasa Air was founded in 2021, backed by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, and flew its first service in August 2022 between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It became India's newest major low-cost carrier, growing at an unusually fast pace and placing follow-on orders that brought its Boeing 737 MAX commitments to more than 200 aircraft.

The fleet is exclusively Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 8-200 aircraft, flown from bases including Mumbai and Bengaluru across India's trunk and secondary routes, with early international services to the Gulf. The orange and purple sunrise livery and crew sneakers-and-trousers uniforms set a deliberately informal tone unusual among Indian carriers.
