Bering Air was founded in 1979 in Nome, Alaska, starting with a single aircraft and a handful of village routes. It expanded through the 1980s and 1990s to cover the Seward Peninsula, Norton Sound and the Kotzebue region, and added helicopter operations for medevac and utility work. The company remains family owned and is one of western Alaska's largest regional operators.
Bases at Nome, Kotzebue and Unalakleet feed around thirty villages, many of which have no road access and depend on the airline for passengers, mail and freight. The fixed wing fleet is led by the Cessna 208 Caravan, with Beechcraft 1900D and King Air 200 turboprops, CASA 212s and Cessna 408 SkyCouriers alongside them.
