About Hawaiian Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines was founded in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways, flying Sikorsky amphibians between the islands, and took its current name in 1941. It is among the oldest American carriers still operating and has never had a fatal accident in nearly a century of service. In 2024 it was acquired by Alaska Air Group.
From Honolulu the airline runs a high-frequency inter-island shuttle alongside long overwater routes to the US mainland, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific. The fleet pairs Boeing 717s on island hops with Airbus A330s, A321neos and Boeing 787-9s on long haul. Its tail features Pualani, the flower maiden, one of aviation's most recognizable island liveries.
