Spirit Airlines' corporate roots reach back to 1964 and a Michigan trucking firm, which evolved into charter operator Charter One before adopting the Spirit name in 1992. The airline became a pioneer of the ultra-low-cost model in the United States, unbundling fares from services, and restructured through Chapter 11 proceedings beginning in late 2024.
Spirit flies an all-Airbus A320-family fleet in the bright yellow livery adopted in 2014, with dense cabins offset by the extra-legroom Big Front Seat.
