RwandAir was founded in 2002 as Rwandair Express, replacing the defunct Air Rwanda, and adopted its current name in 2009. Wholly owned by the Rwandan government, it has grown deliberately from a small regional operator into a steadily expanding carrier, with Kigali developed as a connecting hub for East and Central Africa.
The fleet spans A330s, 737-800s, CRJ900s and Q400 turboprops, unusual variety for an airline of its size, flying from Kigali to London, Paris, Dubai and a broad African network. Qatar Airways has agreed to take a significant minority stake, and Kigali's elevation of nearly 5,000 feet adds performance interest for sim pilots.
