Conviasa, Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronauticas y Servicios Aereos, was founded in 2004 as Venezuela's state-owned flag carrier, partly filling the gap left by the collapse of Viasa. Based at Caracas, it has developed under close government direction through a period of economic difficulty.
Conviasa operates Embraer E190 regional jets on domestic and regional routes together with a small number of Airbus widebodies on long-haul services, including flights to Moscow. Its domestic network reaches destinations such as Canaima, gateway to Angel Falls, giving sim pilots some strikingly scenic Venezuelan sectors.
