About Air Europa
Air Europa was founded in 1986 on Mallorca, initially flying charters to the Spanish holiday islands. Under the Globalia group it moved into scheduled domestic and long-haul service, joining SkyTeam in 2007. It survived a pandemic-era rescue loan, and a proposed takeover by IAG, parent of Iberia, was abandoned in 2024 over competition concerns.
The main hub is Madrid Barajas, from which Air Europa runs one of Europe's densest networks to Latin America, serving cities from Havana to Asunción. Boeing 787-8s and 787-9s fly the long-haul routes, with 737-800s on domestic and European sectors, including frequent shuttles to the Balearic and Canary Islands where the company began.
