About Aeroflot
Aeroflot was founded in 1923 and served as the state airline of the Soviet Union, at its peak the largest airline in the world, flying everything from Tu-104 jets to An-2 biplanes across eleven time zones. After 1991 it continued as Russia's flag carrier, modernized with Western aircraft, and joined SkyTeam in 2006, a membership suspended in 2022.
The hub is Moscow Sheremetyevo, with the winged hammer-and-sickle emblem still on the tail after a century. The fleet mixes Airbus A320-family and A330 aircraft, Boeing 737s and 777s, and the domestically built Superjet 100. Since 2022, sanctions have confined most flying to domestic routes and a reduced set of international destinations.
