Batik Air was founded as the full-service arm of Indonesia's Lion Air Group and began flying in 2013. The brand, named for the traditional Indonesian textile art, grew quickly across the archipelago and gained a Malaysian sibling when Malindo Air was renamed Batik Air Malaysia, extending the name across Southeast Asia.
The main base is Jakarta, with a network spanning Indonesia's islands plus regional international routes. The fleet mixes Boeing 737-800s and 737 MAX aircraft with Airbus A320s, in a livery inspired by batik patterns. Indonesian domestic flying offers sim pilots long overwater legs, volcanic terrain and approaches into airports from Sumatra to Papua.
