About Frontier Airlines
The current Frontier Airlines was founded in 1994 in Denver, reviving the name of the original Frontier that flew from 1950 to 1986. After years as a mainstream low-fare carrier, it was acquired by Indigo Partners in 2013 and converted to an ultra-low-cost model, later listing publicly in 2021.
Every Frontier aircraft carries a different animal on its tail, each with its own name, from Grizwald the bear to Flo the flamingo. The fleet is all Airbus A320 family, heavily weighted to fuel-efficient A320neo and A321neo jets. Denver remains the largest base, with crew bases spread across the United States and a network focused on leisure markets.
