About GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes
GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes was founded in 2000 by the Constantino family's transport group and began flying in January 2001 as Brazil's first low-cost airline. It expanded rapidly, acquired the remains of the historic carrier Varig in 2007, and later joined the Abra group alongside Avianca.
GOL operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet of 737-800s and 737 MAX 8s, one of the largest 737 operations in South America. Key bases include Sao Paulo's downtown Congonhas airport, Guarulhos, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. Congonhas operations feature short-runway landings between city towers, and the network blends dense domestic trunk routes with services to South America, the Caribbean and Florida.
