About Korean Air
Korean Air was established in 1969 when the Hanjin Group took over the state-owned carrier, building it into South Korea's flag airline and a global cargo power. It was a founding member of SkyTeam in 2000 and completed its acquisition of rival Asiana Airlines in December 2024, creating a single dominant national carrier.
From its Seoul Incheon hub, Korean Air flies one of the world's most varied widebody fleets, including the Boeing 747-8I, which it operates as one of the type's last passenger customers, plus A380s, 787s and 777s. Its sky-blue livery, refreshed in 2025, is a fixture on transpacific routes, and its cargo division ranks among the world's largest.
