About SAS
SAS, Scandinavian Airlines, was founded in 1946 as a consortium of the national carriers of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. It pioneered transpolar flying, opening a Copenhagen to Los Angeles route over Greenland in 1954, co-founded Star Alliance in 1997, and switched to SkyTeam in 2024 after restructuring brought in Air France-KLM as an investor.
SAS operates A320neos, A330s and A350-900s from hubs at Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, with regional jets covering thinner Scandinavian routes. Its aircraft are traditionally named after Vikings, and the blue tail with Scandinavian flag colours on the engine cowls makes the livery one of the most recognisable in northern Europe.
