Airlink: History and Facts

Airlink was founded in 1992 in South Africa and for many years operated as a franchise partner of South African Airways. In 2020 it broke away, flying under its own 4Z code and brand, and expanded rapidly into the gap left by SAA's contraction. Qatar Airways acquired a 25 percent stake in 2024.

From Johannesburg, Airlink operates one of the largest Embraer fleets in the region, mainly E170s, E190s and ERJ-140 family jets, serving more than 45 destinations across southern Africa. The network includes distinctive fields such as Skukuza inside Kruger National Park and the island of St Helena, one of the world's most remote scheduled destinations.
