SATA Air Acores: History and Facts
SATA Air Açores traces its origins to 1941 and the Sociedade Açoreana de Estudos Aéreos, with scheduled inter-island flights beginning in 1947. Owned by the Azores regional government, it has spent decades as the archipelago's essential internal air link, while sister company Azores Airlines handles the longer routes to the mainland and beyond.
The airline flies Dash 8 Q200s and Q400s between all nine inhabited Azorean islands, on sectors so short that some last well under half an hour. Corvo's tiny airstrip, persistent Atlantic winds and terrain-influenced approaches on islands like Flores and Pico make the network a favourite challenge for turboprop sim pilots.
