Air Atlanta Icelandic is an Icelandic ACMI carrier founded in 1986 by pilot Arngrímur Jóhannsson and Þóra Guðmundsdóttir, and was once the world's largest Boeing 747 wet-lease operator, flying passenger jumbos for airlines on every continent and carrying generations of hajj pilgrims. Today it concentrates on freight, with Boeing 747-400 freighters flying long-term contracts for cargo majors including Saudia Cargo.
In May 2026 Atlas Air Worldwide agreed to take a 49 percent stake in the company, joining together two of the biggest names in 747 cargo flying. Together with its Maltese sister Air Atlanta Europe, the group remains one of the last great strongholds of the 747.
