About Air India Express

Air India Express was founded in 2005 as Air India's low-cost arm, built to serve the heavy flow of workers and families between South India and the Gulf. Kerala's airports became its natural heartland. Under Tata ownership it merged with AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India, in 2024, emerging as a much larger single budget carrier.

Boeing 737-800s and new 737 MAX 8s, joined by Airbus A320s from the merger, connect cities like Kochi, Kozhikode and Kannur with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Muscat and Doha. Each aircraft tail carries unique artwork celebrating Indian culture, from festivals to textiles, making the fleet one of the most varied-looking in Asia.
