About Air Baltic
airBaltic was founded in 1995 as Latvia's national carrier, a joint venture between the state and SAS in its early years. After restructuring in the 2010s it bet its future on the Airbus A220, becoming in 2016 the first operator of the larger A220-300 variant and later converting to an all-A220 mainline fleet.
Riga is the main hub, with additional bases at Tallinn, Vilnius and seasonal Tampere, making it a de facto carrier for all three Baltic states. Its A220-300s also fly extensively on wet-lease for Lufthansa, Swiss and others. Special liveries have included the flags of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania painted across entire fuselages.
