Caribbean Airlines was founded in 2006 and began flying on 1 January 2007 as the successor to BWIA West Indies Airways, Trinidad and Tobago's long-standing flag carrier whose history reached back to 1939. In 2011 it took over the operations of Air Jamaica, adding Kingston as a second major base.
The hub is Port of Spain Piarco, with a strong Jamaican operation at Kingston. Boeing 737-8s fly to North American cities with large Caribbean communities, including New York, Toronto and Miami, while ATR 72s connect the islands, among them the busy Trinidad to Tobago air bridge. The hummingbird on the tail honors Trinidad's national bird.
