Air Corsica traces its line back to Compagnie Corse Mediterranee, founded in 1989 to link Corsica with mainland France under a public service obligation. The airline took its present name in 2010. It is majority owned by the Corsican regional authority, and its purpose has not changed in thirty-five years: keeping the island connected through the winter as well as the summer.
The fleet pairs Airbus A320 family jets with ATR 72 turboprops, which suits a network of short sectors into short runways. Ajaccio and Bastia are the main bases, with Calvi and Figari also served. Routes run to Paris, Marseille, Nice, Lyon and a widening list of seasonal destinations across France and Europe.
