Breeze Airways was founded by David Neeleman, the serial airline entrepreneur behind Morris Air, WestJet, JetBlue and Azul, and began flying in May 2021 with a Tampa to Charleston service. Built around point-to-point routes between mid-size US cities lacking nonstop links, it initially flew Embraer E190s and E195s before standardising on the Airbus A220.
Breeze's A220-300s carry names in keeping with its 'Seriously Nice' branding, and the airline concentrates on bases such as Tampa, Charleston, Provo, Norfolk and Providence. Many routes touch smaller airports rarely seen on airline schedules, and the A220's range has enabled transcontinental flying that is unusual for such a young carrier.
