Norwegian Air Shuttle is Norway's largest airline and one of Europe's best known low cost carriers, flying an all Boeing 737 fleet from bases at Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Tromso across Scandinavia and to leisure destinations around the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. Founded in 1993 to fly regional routes on behalf of Braathens, it grew rapidly after taking on its own jet operation in 2002 and spent the 2010s building an ambitious long haul network with the Boeing 787.
The long haul operation ended during the pandemic restructuring, and the airline emerged in 2021 focused on the short haul Nordic market it knows best. The group now flies under two air operator certificates: Norwegian Air Shuttle in Norway, using the ICAO code NOZ and the callsign NORDIC, and Norwegian Air Sweden. Both replaced the older NAX and NSW designators in October 2021.
