About Air Caledonie
Air Caledonie has flown the domestic network of New Caledonia since 1955, when it began as Transports Aeriens Caledoniens. It is the only scheduled operator linking the main island to the Loyalty Islands and the Isle of Pines, and for most of those communities the aeroplane is the practical alternative to a long sea crossing.
Operations are based at Noumea Magenta, the city airport, rather than the international field at La Tontouta. The fleet is built around the ATR 72-600, chosen for the short coral runways it has to work into. Destinations include Lifou, Mare, Ouvea, Tiga, Koumac, Kone and the Isle of Pines.
