Malaysia Airlines traces its roots to Malayan Airways, founded in 1947 in Singapore. After a period as Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, the company split in 1972, creating Malaysian Airline System, later shortened to Malaysia Airlines. The carrier was restructured under Malaysia Airlines Berhad in 2015 and has been a oneworld member since 2013.

From its Kuala Lumpur International hub the airline operates A350-900s and A330s on long-haul routes alongside 737-800s and 737 MAX 8s across Southeast Asia.
