Alaska Airlines began in 1932 as McGee Airways, flying a single Stinson out of Anchorage, and adopted the Alaska name in 1944. Long headquartered in Seattle, it merged with Virgin America in 2016, joined the oneworld alliance in 2021, and completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in 2024 while keeping both brands.
Seattle-Tacoma is the main hub, with the smiling Eskimo tail a fixture on the US West Coast. Mainline flying is nearly all Boeing 737, while subsidiary Horizon Air operates Embraer 175s. The famous Milk Run threads 737 combis' old territory through Southeast Alaska towns like Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg and Juneau, a classic sim challenge.
