About Air Asia
AirAsia was founded in 1993 and transformed in 2001 when Tony Fernandes and partners bought the indebted airline for one ringgit, relaunching it as a low-cost carrier. From two aircraft it grew into a group of affiliate airlines across Southeast Asia and reshaped budget travel in the region under the slogan Now Everyone Can Fly.
The main base is klia2, the dedicated low-cost terminal at Kuala Lumpur, with an all-Airbus A320-family fleet in red and white. The network blankets Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the wider region, and Skytrax has repeatedly named AirAsia the world's leading low-cost carrier. Special liveries have ranged from sports sponsorships to national-pride themes.
