About British Airways
British Airways was formed in 1974 by merging BOAC and BEA, with predecessor companies dating to 1919 and the world's first scheduled international air service. It flew Concorde supersonically from 1976 until 2003, was privatized in 1987, co-founded the oneworld alliance in 1999, and joined Iberia under the IAG group in 2011.
London Heathrow is the principal hub, with Gatwick and City serving additional networks. The fleet spans A320neos, A350-1000s, 777s, 787s and A380s; BA was once the world's largest 747 operator, retiring the type in 2020. Heritage liveries marking the 2019 centenary, including BOAC and Landor schemes, remain popular subjects among sim pilots.
