Finnair was founded in 1923 as Aero O/Y, making it one of the world's oldest airlines in continuous operation. Early services used Junkers floatplanes from Helsinki harbor. The Finnair name became official in 1968, and the carrier built its modern identity on efficient connections between Europe and Asia over the short northern route.
Finnair was the first European airline to operate the Airbus A350, taking delivery in 2015, and flies it alongside A330s and a narrowbody Airbus and Embraer fleet from its Helsinki hub. Special Marimekko-designed liveries have appeared on several aircraft. Closure of Russian airspace forced longer Asian routings, reshaping the network toward more European and transatlantic flying.
