About Atlantic Airways
Atlantic Airways was founded in 1987 as the national airline of the Faroe Islands and flew its first service in 1988 between Vagar and Copenhagen. Owned by the Faroese government, it ended decades of dependence on Danish carriers and gradually expanded from a single leased jet into a small modern fleet.
Flying from Vagar Airport, with its short runway set among steep fjords, the airline pioneered RNP AR satellite-guided approaches to operate reliably in North Atlantic weather. The fleet consists of Airbus A320 family jets, including A320neos, plus helicopters that provide subsidized inter-island services. Routes reach Copenhagen, other Danish and Nordic cities, and seasonal European destinations.
