Iberia was founded in 1927 and flew its first route between Madrid and Barcelona that year. Long Spain's flag carrier, it built the leading network between Europe and Latin America through the twentieth century and merged with British Airways in 2011 to form International Airlines Group, while keeping its own brand and hub.
From Madrid Barajas Terminal 4, Iberia operates one of the largest Europe to Latin America networks, flown with Airbus A350-900s and A330s. In late 2024 it became the world's first operator of the Airbus A321XLR, using the long-range narrowbody on transatlantic routes such as Madrid to Boston. Short-haul flying is handled by A320 family jets and Iberia Express.
