JetSMART Argentina, Peru and Colombia Join the Network
The three remaining JetSMART certificates have been added to the network. The Chilean parent joined on 3 September at a member's request, and the group's Argentine, Peruvian and Colombian subsidiaries are now on as well. Each holds its own codes, callsign and schedule, so a flight is filed under the certificate that operates it in the real world. The four carriers together hold 870 routes.
JetSMART Argentina flies as JES and WJ with the callsign SMARTBIRD. It was set up in 2016 as Alas del Sur, began scheduled flying in April 2019 and bought Norwegian Air Argentina later that year. 306 routes have been imported, covering 19 airports in four countries. Buenos Aires Aeroparque is the main base, with Ezeiza alongside it, and the network reaches Mendoza, Bariloche, Puerto Iguazu, Neuquen, Salta, Tucuman, Cordoba, Ushuaia and Comodoro Rivadavia, plus Santiago, Asuncion, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Natal.
JetSMART Peru flies as JAP and JZ with the callsign REDSMART. It was certified in 2022 and opened with Lima to Arequipa that June. 94 routes are in, over 13 airports in five countries: Lima and Cusco carry most of it, with Arequipa, Chiclayo, Tarapoto, Piura and Cajamarca on the domestic side and Medellin, Cartagena, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Quito abroad.
JetSMART Colombia flies as JEC and J6 with the callsign JETROCK. It was certified by Aerocivil and flew Bogota to Medellin on 14 March 2024, entering a market left without a low cost carrier when Viva and Ultra Air stopped flying in 2023. 246 routes have been imported across 14 airports. Bogota El Dorado and Medellin Jose Maria Cordova carry the bulk, ahead of Cartagena, Cali, Santa Marta, San Andres, Pereira, Cucuta, Armenia, Barranquilla, Monteria and Bucaramanga, with Punta Cana and Santiago as the international pair.
All three fly the Airbus A320 family in a single class layout. The group moves aircraft between its certificates, so tails shift between the four fleets as the schedule sync follows the real registrations.
