Shanghai Airlines: History and Facts

Shanghai Airlines was founded in 1985, among the first Chinese carriers established outside the CAAC's direct operations. It grew alongside its home city into a well-regarded full-service airline, and in 2010 it merged with China Eastern Airlines, continuing to operate as a distinct brand within the group.

Shanghai Airlines flies from both Hongqiao and Pudong airports, with a fleet mixing Boeing 737s and 787-9 Dreamliners alongside Airbus narrowbodies. As part of the China Eastern group it participates in SkyTeam, and its white fuselage with a red crane-inspired tail remains a familiar sight around Shanghai.
