About Air Canada
Air Canada began in 1937 as Trans-Canada Air Lines, a government-owned carrier linking Vancouver and Seattle with a Lockheed Electra. Renamed Air Canada in 1965 and privatized in 1989, it became a founding member of Star Alliance in 1997 and absorbed rival Canadian Airlines in 2001 to become the country's dominant carrier.
Hubs at Toronto Pearson, Montreal and Vancouver anchor a network spanning six continents. The fleet pairs Boeing 787s and 777s with Airbus A330s, A220s built in nearby Mirabel, and 737 MAX aircraft, all in the black-and-red rondelle livery introduced in 2017. Leisure subsidiary Air Canada Rouge and the Jazz-operated Express network extend the map.
