About Austrian
Austrian Airlines was founded in 1957 through the merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways, restoring a national flag carrier that traces symbolic roots to 1923. It joined Star Alliance in 2000 and became part of the Lufthansa Group in 2009, absorbing subsidiaries Lauda Air and Tyrolean Airways along the way.
Vienna is the sole hub, positioned as a gateway between Western Europe, the Balkans and the Middle East. Boeing 777s and 787s fly long-haul, with Airbus A320-family jets and Embraer 195s on European routes.
