About China Eastern Airlines
China Eastern Airlines was formed in 1988 in Shanghai from the CAAC's regional operations. It absorbed China Northwest Airlines and Yunnan Airlines in 2002, merged with Shanghai Airlines in 2010 while keeping both brands, and joined SkyTeam in 2011, establishing itself as one of China's big three carriers.
China Eastern operates from both Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong, with further hubs at Kunming and Xi'an. It was the launch operator of the Chinese-built COMAC C919, flying the type's first commercial service in May 2023 between Shanghai and Beijing. The wide Airbus and Boeing fleet ranges from A320s to 777-300ERs.
