Seaborne Airlines, Air Mauritius Heritage A340s and a Network Events Page

Four things went live on the network this week: a new airline, a heritage fleet, a page for online network events, and a rewritten set of rules.

Seaborne Airlines

Seaborne operates the harbour to harbour seaplane shuttle between St Croix and St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, and it is now on the network with twelve daily flights on the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter. The two water aerodromes, Christiansted Harbor and Charlotte Amalie Harbor, have been added along with them.

Neither seaplane base has a four letter ICAO indicator, so SimBrief cannot build a flight plan for these legs. They use our no OFP dispatch flow instead: you pick your aircraft, the booking is completed for you, and the briefing gives route and block figures, aircraft status and live weather for both airports. The JSV Flight Logger starts, tracks and files the flight exactly as on any other leg.

Air Mauritius heritage A340-300

Air Mauritius flew the Airbus A340-300 for twenty seven years until 2021. Six of those airframes have been added to the airline as a heritage fleet, under their real registrations: 3B-NAT, 3B-NAU, 3B-NAY, 3B-NBD, 3B-NBE and 3B-NBI. They appear under the amber Historic Aircraft bar when you book an Air Mauritius flight, and dispatch and track like any other aircraft. You will need an A340 model installed in your simulator to fly one. The current fleet on the network is unchanged: A350, A330neo, A330-200 and ATR 72.

Network events

There is now an events page built on the VATSIM event calendar, with IVAO to follow once our API key is issued. It shows a month calendar and the events for any day you pick, with the organiser, the times in UTC and the airports involved. Where we serve an event airport, the airport chip links straight into our own schedule, so you can book a flight to the fly-in while the controllers are still online. There is also a filter for events you can reach directly from the airport you are parked at.

Rules and regulations

Our rules have been rewritten and published in full. They cover conduct, what we ask of your account, how flights should be operated, the activity policy, how enforcement works and what we do with your data. Two things worth reading if you read nothing else: substituting aircraft is explicitly allowed and liveries are entirely your choice, and one logged flight every three months keeps your account active. Accounts that go quiet move to On Leave first and we always email you before anything is removed.
