Lufthansa City Airlines: History and Facts

Lufthansa City Airlines was founded on 5 April 2022 as City Airlines and flew its first service on 26 June 2024. It is a wholly owned Lufthansa Group subsidiary, set up to fly short and medium haul routes under the Lufthansa brand on a separate crew agreement, feeding the group's hubs at Munich and Frankfurt.

Eighteen aircraft are in service, Airbus A319s and A320neos, with A220-300s on order. The network runs from Munich and Frankfurt across Europe, Amsterdam included. The airline is a Star Alliance affiliate and its flights are sold under the Lufthansa brand as well as its own VL code.
