Troubleshooting
The app doesn’t detect my simulator
- MSFS 2020/2024: Make sure MSFS is fully loaded to the main menu or an active flight. SimConnect requires the sim to be running and ready.
- X-Plane 11/12: The app communicates via UDP on port 49000. Make sure no firewall is blocking it. Check X-Plane’s network settings if needed.
- The app scans every 10 seconds — wait a moment after starting your sim.
- Try restarting both the simulator and the Flight Logger.
- If using MSFS, ensure SimConnect is working — other SimConnect apps (e.g., FSUIPC) connecting means it’s available.
My PIREP wasn’t filed
If you closed the app before filing, the PIREP is still prefiled on the server. Contact an admin to manually approve or delete it. Any queued position data will be sent automatically when you next launch the app.
The app shows the wrong flight phase
Phase detection relies on accurate sim data. Common causes:
- Very short flights (under 5 minutes) may skip some phases.
- Teleporting or slewing in the sim confuses the detector.
- Pausing and unpausing mid-flight is handled, but extended pauses may cause timing issues.
Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer
Click More info → Run anyway. This happens because the installer is not yet code-signed. It is safe to install.
Login fails
- Verify your email and password at jetstreamvirtual.com first.
- If your account is inactive or suspended, you won’t be able to log in.
- The app connects to
https://jetstreamvirtual.comautomatically — no server URL to configure.
No flights appear in the app
The Flight Logger only shows flights you have booked on the website. To get a flight:
- Go to jetstreamvirtual.com and log in.
- Browse the schedule and book a flight.
- The booking will appear in the app automatically.
Telemetry data seems incomplete
- Some aircraft add-ons don’t expose all SimConnect variables. Basic data (position, speed, altitude) is always available.
- Engine data (N1, N2, EGT, oil) depends on the aircraft model’s SimConnect implementation.
- ILS data only appears when tuned to a valid ILS frequency on approach.
- Gate and runway data come from the simulator — they may not be available at all airports.
App uses too much memory or CPU
The app is lightweight but processes data every second. If you notice performance issues:
- Close other Electron-based apps (Discord, Teams, etc.) to free resources.
- The app uses about 100–200 MB of RAM during a flight — this is normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Flight Logger replace vmsACARS?
Yes. The JSV Flight Logger is our custom replacement for vmsACARS. It captures significantly more data (80+ telemetry variables vs. basic position reporting), includes real-time scoring, and integrates directly with the website. Both are supported during the transition period, but we recommend switching for the best experience.
Can I use both at the same time?
Not simultaneously. Use one or the other per flight to avoid duplicate PIREPs.
Does it work on macOS or Linux?
Currently Windows only. macOS support is planned for a future release.
Do I need to install anything else?
No. The installer includes everything needed — no separate SimConnect SDK, AIRAC databases, runtimes, or dependencies required.
Is my password stored securely?
Your password is exchanged for an API token on login and is never stored locally. Only the session token is saved.
What happens if I lose internet mid-flight?
Position data is buffered locally in a SQLite queue and sent when connectivity returns. Your PIREP will still be filed normally — you can even fly an entire flight offline.
Can the admin see my flight in real-time?
Yes. Your position updates appear on the live map at jetstreamvirtual.com as they are sent to the server.
What data does the app send to the server?
Position reports (every 30 seconds), flight events, phase transitions, and the final PIREP with performance snapshots. All data is sent over HTTPS to the JetStream Virtual API.
Where do I book flights?
On the JetStream Virtual website. The Flight Logger is focused on flight tracking — dispatching and booking happen on the website.
Where can I get help?
Contact staff on the JetStream Virtual Discord server, or use the support contact on the website.
