X-Plane: Fixing "No Sim Data"

X-Plane running but the logger shows no aircraft data and boarding never completes? How to fix the firewall and port settings, no plugin needed.

X-Plane: Fixing "No Sim Data"

You start a flight in the JSV Flight Logger, X-Plane is running, but nothing happens: boarding never completes, the boarding announcement keeps repeating, and the logger shows no aircraft data. This article explains why that happens and how to fix it in a few minutes.

What is going on

The Flight Logger does not need any plugin for X-Plane. It talks directly to X-Plane's built-in data interface: the logger sends its requests to X-Plane on UDP port 49000, and X-Plane sends the aircraft data back to the logger on UDP port 49100. When the logger shows no sim data while X-Plane is running, the requests are going out but the replies are being blocked on the way back in. In almost every case the blocker is Windows Firewall or an antivirus suite.

The fix

  1. Allow the logger through Windows Firewall. Open Windows Security, go to Firewall & network protection, choose Allow an app through firewall, click Change settings, and make sure JSV Flight Logger is listed and ticked for both Private and Public networks. If it is not in the list, click Allow another app, browse to %LocalAppData%\Programs\jsv-flight-logger\JSV Flight Logger.exe and add it. Using a third-party antivirus or security suite? Allow the app there as well.
  2. Check X-Plane's port. In X-Plane open Settings, then Network, and confirm the UDP port is set to the default 49000. Some add-ons change this value.
  3. Start in the right order. Launch X-Plane first and load your aircraft at the gate, then start the flight in the logger. The logger scans for the simulator every 10 seconds, so give it a moment.
  4. Restart both X-Plane and the logger after making these changes.

How to confirm it works

Shortly after starting a flight the logger shows live aircraft data: position, fuel and ground speed. Boarding then completes normally and the announcements stop repeating. A quick way to prove the firewall is the culprit: turn the firewall off for one minute and start a flight. If the data suddenly appears, turn the firewall back on and add the rule from step 1.

Frequently asked

  • Do I need XPUIPC or another plugin? No. XPUIPC is only needed for vmsACARS. The JSV Flight Logger uses X-Plane's native interface and works without any plugin.
  • Does this affect MSFS? No. MSFS connects through SimConnect and is not affected by these ports.
  • X-Plane runs on another PC? The logger connects to X-Plane on the same computer only; run both on the same machine.
